A main challenge is that the radiation pattern imaged using high-frequency data has high ambiguity in distinguishing the focal mechanisms. Here we suggest a processing flow to identify the double couple, single couple, and single force sources in time-space domain. Our results indicate the single force source can be identified on time-depth slice and time-distance slice; the double couple source and single couple source can be distinguished from each other by their amplitude distributions on the time-distance slice and by the displacement variation with time pattern on the time-depth slice. Using this method a small earthquake in the Three Gorges Reservoir region is identified as a double couple source. This method is easily applicable to identify other types of sources.
