- W2327904054 abstract "Nonlinear random response of isotropic and laminated composite thin shallow shells subjected to stationary ergodic random Gaussian uniform pressure excitations is studied. Two types of loading conditions with respect to time for the uniform random pressure are considered: 1) synchronized in time, and 2) unsynchronized and statistically uncorrelated in time. The present paper employs a finite element nonlinear modal formulation in conjunction with the time domain Monte Carlo simulation to assess, for the first time, the major differences resulted from the two distinct loading cases. It was observed from the results that the unsynchronized random load yields much lower root-mean-square responses. Single-mode and multi-mode free vibrations results are compared with existing solutions to validate the nonlinear modal formulation. Results also include power spectral densities of the displacement response. Computational burden due to the simulation of the unsynchronized random pressure fluctuations that requires the use of parallel computing capabilities in MATLAB is addressed." @default.
