- W2328166871 abstract "A multiple -specie argon plasma flow with weak ionization at hypersonic speeds for the heavy particles is studied numerica lly. It is conjectured that, because of different sonic speeds for the electrons and heavies, the approaching electron flow in “shock -front” is subsonic although the approaching flow of the heavies is supersonic. Therefore at the shock, the ions and neutra ls have step increase in pressure, density and temperature, whereas a step decrease in the flow velocity, but on the other hand the electron number density and flow velocity may not have significant change across the shock. It is therefore conjectured that this can lead to significant charge separation and strong electric fields which should cause extensive electrostatic forces, trying to change the flow and restore quickly to almost zero charge density. The electric field in the general flow direction str ongly retards the electrons and accelerates the ions, which, in turn, interact with neutrals due to collision between them. The flow geometry considered is that of an inverted cone blunt body, which was the model studied nearly forty years back for very h igh Mach numbers with good numerical stability. The numerical results show considerable effects in a weakly -ionized plasma flow. Change in the shock structure and neutrals mass density distribution are demonstrated for argon plasma." @default.
