- W2328478857 abstract "The Air Force Hypersonic Technology Program tested candidate scramjet propulsion system materials in simulated Mach 8 missile operational environments. The testing was conducted in the Air Force Arnold Engineering Development Center H2 arc jet facility and the GASL Panel Oxidation and Erosion Test facility and focused on passive materials for the inlet leading edge and sidewall, the combustor sidewall, and the external nozzle. The results indicate that several material systems including oxidation protected carbon-carbon and carbonsilicon carbide composites exhibit minimal recession and are suitable for inlet applications on a single use missile. Ceramic matrix composite materials also showed promise at temperatures up to 3,500°F for combustor and nozzle environments." @default.
