- W2328777701 abstract "Introduction: Objective outcome measures are accepted as requisite tools in the provision of quality care across all clinical settings in physical therapy. Traditionally, physical therapy outcome assessment focused on changes in measures of impairments such as girth measurements, strength, balance, and pain scores, with less emphasis on the overall functional levels attained by patients and clients. In recent years both research reports and practice behaviors have changed to include more attention to function and disability when addressing outcomes to physical therapy interventions. Health Related Quality of Life (HRQL) assessments refer to tools, usually brief questionnaires that are used to evaluate functional levels in a variety of capacities. Purpose: The purpose of this commentary is to provide an overview of selected HRQL assessments that are used in physical therapy with particular emphasis on those that are suitable for use in physical therapy practice focused on selected conditions that commonly occur in women. Summary: HRQL assessments appropriate for use in the management of pelvic pain, urinary incontinence, lymphedema, and status postbreast cancer surgery are described. Conclusion: Well-defined, psychometrically strong, and easily administered HRQL assessments may allow clinicians to better evaluate the outcomes to physical therapy interventions as they relate to women's functional improvement, and also assist with the goal of addressing the holistic health needs of women in our care." @default.
