- W2328873550 abstract "This study was made near the Helsinki University Biological Station in Lammi, Finland. The site was a grazing meadow. A double random sample was taken from this, using 12 measuring points. The study area proved homogeneous. CO2 production was studied in measurements with and without vegetation. At measuring points covered with vegetation CO2 production was 125 o higher on the average. On the basis of double random sampling, plant mass estimates influenced by percentage of living tissue and the statistically significant dependence thus obtained, it was possible to evaluate average CO2 production for the whole sampling area under study as a regression estimate. By extrapolating with the aid of regression lines, a figure was obtained for CO2 production from soil of the same magnitude as in actual CO2 production tests. The part played by the root system in CO2 production from soil cannot be evaluated from mass estimates of plant parts above ground. Between maximum temperatures of measuring vessels and CO2 production no statistically significant correlation was observed.
