- W2328896232 abstract "[Abstract] The use of evolutionary computation to approach biological optimization problems has been an issue of growing interest in recent years. This paper investigates the use of Graph Based Evolutionary Algorithms to find alternative approaches for the use of antibiotics in swine production. An ideal regimen would minimize the amount of resistant bacteria present in the animal at the end of production while maintaining the weight gain benefits currently realized by using performance enhancing additives in the post-weaning and finishing stages of production. As a starting point for this investigation we consider Campylobacter.spp present in an “average” animal’s gastro-intestinal tract using the antibiotic Tylosin Phosphate as a performance enhancement and for disease prevention. Preliminary solutions have given results with equivalent weight gain and lower bacteria resistance levels (ratio of resistant to susceptible) when compared to those currently found at production sites using existing regimens." @default.
