- W2330913878 abstract "The disaggregation of consumers on the basis of their cognitive or overt behaviour according to various social and economic measures has improved our understanding of variations in many aspects of consumer behaviour and improved upon the many inferences made by earlier classical models. In this paper consumers are disaggregated by social class, and it is determined whether the higher the social-class group, the greater is the distance travelled to shop for five products. In the case of groceries and women's dress the hypothesis is supported, reflecting variations in store and shopping-centre preference which require different distances to be travelled. For the other three products (furniture, appliances and footwear) less product specialization and more within-centre differences in the social-class appeal of stores result in greater similarities in terms of distance travelled between many of the social-class groups. The paper examines some of the major problems of disaggregation and the need for more refinement in future research." @default.
