- W2333926201 abstract "Effects of stimulation of the temporal nerve branch upon excitability of the Tem-poral Motoneurons in the trigeminal motor nucleus which innervate each temporal muscle belly were studied in decerebrate and decerebellate cats by means of the conditioning -testing technique. The results obtained are as follows:1. The antidromic-evoked potential and orthodromic-evoked potential induced by stimulation of the trigeminal mesencephalic nucleus (V. Mes. N.) were recorded from the each temporal nerve branch. The latency of antidromic-evoked potential was about 0.8ms and that of orthodromic-evoked potential was about 2.0ms.2. The amplitude of Temporal Monosynaptic Reflex (TMR) induced by the test sti mulus of the V. Mes. N. was first facilitated and then inhibited by the conditioning stimulus to the te mporal nerve branch, The facilitation was detectable soon after the conditioning stimulus and reached a peak at about 7-8rris. The inhibition, which was detectable about 10-20ms after the conditioning stimul us, reached a peak at about 40-50ms and gradually decayed up to about 200-250ms.Strychnine (0.1mg/kg, i. v.) did not influence the facilitation but it diminished the inhibition.3. Afferent impulses via group Ia fibers in the temporal nerve branch may contribute to inducing the facilitation and group lb afferents in the nerve are assumed to mainly contribute to inducing the inhibition.4. The TMR was inhibited by stimulation of the contralateral temporal nerve. After administration of strychnine (0.1mg/kg, i. v.), the inhibition disappeared and the sequence of facilitation-inhibition appeared.5. The TMR was also affected by stimulation of both the ipsi- and contralateral masseteric nerve, and it was inhibited by stimulation of the lingual nerve. This inhibition consists of the early and late phases. The early phase disappeared by strychnine (0.1mg/kg, i. v.) but the late one was not affected." @default.
