- W2334104555 abstract "The laboratory diagnosis of German measles can be accomplished by several methods. One method involves the ability of rubella virus to render African green monkey kidney (AGMK) cell cultures resistant to infection with enteroviruses. Another method utilizes the indirect fluorescent technic; with it infections due to rubella virus are recognized in retrospect when serum samples are tested for the presence of antibodies against the agent. • A third method employs rabbit kidney or rabbit corneal cell lines whereby the virus is detected by its cytopathogenic effect on these cell cultures.' 12 The hemadsorption negative plaque test is a unique method by which rubella virus can be detected and assayed. With this procedure rubella virus-infected cells develop an interference to superinfection by Newcastle disease virus (NDV) and these cells are subsequently tested for hemadsorption. Negative hemadsorption areas identify the location of the rubella virus-infected cells. All of these methods are quite useful when laboratory confirmation of rubella virus infections is desired; however, it would seem that the application of the direct fluorescent technic would accomplish a more rapid laboratory diagnosis of infections due to rubella virus. The description of the successful application of this method to the recognition of rubella virus is the purpose of this paper." @default.
