- W2334341193 abstract "The ARTEMIS Satellite to be launched in early 2000 will carry payloads able to provide to users several services in the field of Data Relay, Mobile Communication and Navigation. The SKDR Payload provides Feeder Link for Data Relay service between LEO user and ground stations, Optical Terminals and Artemis Experiments (^-vibration monitoring, Ion Propulsion). The L-band Land Mobile payload will allow up to 445 mobile users to simultaneously access the satellite at L-band to be connected, via the Ku band feeder link, to fixed earth stations. LLM will experience also the frequency reuse by polarization discrimination on the same beam and spatial diversity. In this paper the SKDR and the LLM payload for Mobile Communication are described. EGNOS system, backed by the ETG (European Tripartite Group) and supported by several European Union's Member States, will evolve stepwise from AOC (Advanced Operational Capabilities) to FOC ( Full Operational Capabilities) in the year 2000. AOC is currently based on the Inmarsat III (AOR-E and IOR) space segment. The system upgrading to FOC requires the addition of at least a third geostationary overlay satellite. Orbital position, coverage and payload characteristics of the ESA ARTEMIS satellite, suggest its use as third GEO for EGNOS FOC phase. This paper describes the studies performed by Alenia Aerospazio which lead to the decision to embark a Navigation Payload on board Artemis." @default.
