Lipid weight/dry weight ratios (0.29 to 0.38) remained fairly constant throughout vitellogenesis. Triglyceride was the major lipid class at all stages of oogenesis and in oviducal eggs (52.2 to 86.0%), with phospholipids next in abundance (11.7 to 18.6%). Also present were cholesteryl esters, free fatty acids, diglycerides, and free cholesterol. Oleic acid (18:1), palmitic acid (16:0), and linoleic acid (18:2) were the major components of triglycerides and phospholipids throughout oocyte development. The proportion of unsaturated fatty acids in the triglycerides (64.0 to 69.5%) are discussed in relation to the thermal regime, mode of reproduction, and diet of C. uniparens. * * *" @default.
