The second is to monitor waveforms on the surface and stack the signals along moveout curves until event detection is registered through a peak in the stack. In order to assess the detectability of this stacking procedure in terms of events with a given moment magnitude, we present a methodology of projecting signals recorded downhole to the surface, accounting for interface scattering, geometrical spreading and intrinsic attenuation. Adding incoherent noise to a number of sensors and then stacking these signals allows for the magnitude of detectability to be assessed for surface monitoring experiments.
