- W2336240724 abstract "Ministry of National Education piloted multiple sources of performance evaluation in some schools within performance evaluation. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of multiple source of performance evaluation on school climate. With this purpose, administrators and teachers of two piloted schools, and supervisors who supervised those schools were interviewed individually by using semi-structured interview technique. Collected data analyzed by using content analysis. Most of the participants (15 teachers, 5 supervisors, 3 administrators) claimed that multiple source of performance evaluations affects school climate negatively. Those negative effects were explained under three themes as emotion, behavior and thought. Those negative effects were believed to emerge from nonobjective evaluation and/or misconduct evaluation practices. Multiple source of evaluation affects organizational climate negatively SUMMARY Purpose and significance: Although many research conducted in relation to the multiple source of performance evaluation, a few studies conducted about the effect of multiple source of performance evaluations on school climate. Kudisch, Fortunato and Smith (2006) suggested that some variables were related to the organization, such as organizational climate; thus, they should be studied with multiple source of performance evaluation. A study conducted by Akbaba-Altun and Memisoglu (2008) indicated that one of the problems faced in applying multiple source of performance evaluation was related to the derogation in school climate. Therefore, the aim of this study was to find out the effects of multiple source of performance evaluation on school climate. Method: This is a qualitative study which was conducted in two schools where multiple source of performance evaluations had been piloted. The participants included one school principal, two assistant principals, and 16 teachers working at schools; and, six supervisors who had supervised those two schools were also asked to participate in this study. Data were collected through interview and were analyzed by content analysis. Finally, the findings were visually presented. Results: It was found that multiple source of performance evaluation had both positive and negative effects on organizational climate; however, the negative effects outnumbered the positive effects at the dimensions of emotion, thought and behavior. Those negative effects were believed to emerge from nonobjective evaluation and/or misconduct evaluation practices. Discussion and Conclusion: Since this is a qualitative study limited with two schools, the findings should not be generalized. The reviewed literature indicates both positive and negative outcomes of using multiple source of performance evaluation. Thus, the findings of this study are in parallel with the literature. Being objective and evaluating one, peers, superiors, and subordinates are learnable behaviors. Thus, there is a need to describe how to be an objective evaluator as an emerging phenomenon. Multiple source of evaluation affects organizational climate negatively. Thus, more qualitative and quantitative research is needed." @default.
