- W2336507951 abstract "This research has as fundamental purpose, thegeneration of strategies for the product development organizationin Ford of Mexico; the goal is to increase the capability of theworkforce for the development of future work streams. In thisthesis, a network model for organizational architectures referredas organizational design structure matrix is used to identify themain interactions among the project teams; this interaction patternis compared to product interfaces captured in a product DSM model.A case study from Ford Motor Company is utilized; the developmentis narrowed to the analysis of the front end system of a new CDplatform vehicle during the main stages of the product developmentprocess. To set up a context for this thesis, I elaborate theproduct development process from Ford and describe the main designchallenges from the case study. In this thesis, I also explain therole that communication plays in an organization due to teamgeographic location and categories within the organization. DSMconcepts and methods are explained to converge further in theapplication of the product development organization case study. Istart the research with the creation of the product DSM for thefront end system team through data collection, and interviews withthe core engineering group at the company; surrogate data fromcurrent production CD vehicles was analyzed. I survey the Fordfront end system team to understand the frequency and level ofinteraction among component teams during the development of theproject. Technical maturity level of each team member is collectedas well. Additional data from the program management team isacquired to cross reference project team performance withorganizational communication. I compare the data set collected withthe product architecture DSM to determine mismatches in theorganization interactions. In addition, a series of clusteringanalyses are also compared to improve the team design structurematrix; these results allow us to convey strategies andrecommendations to Ford of Mexico organization, to ultimatelyenhance the product development organizationcapabilities." @default.
