- W2336573844 abstract "The discovery of mesoporous materials marks a major event in areas related to catalysis, sorption and separation processes, but in recent years, there has been an explosion of interest in the mesostructured material field, partly because they seen to have high potential for applications over a wide range of technological needs. To improve many aspects, such as control and reproducibility of the synthesis methods, a new method in which transition metal nanoparticles can be dispersed on a matrix by a direct process is found in the polymeric precursor method. The goal of this work is to investigate the mechanism of pore formation in the SiO2-Ni nanocomposite and how the pore size distribution and Ni nanoparticles nucleation in the matrix composite are changed by diol chain size and time of pyrolysis. Ni:SiO2 nanocomposites samples were synthesized by using tetraethoxysilane, citric acid, and nickel (II) nitrate hexahydrate in a complexation process in ethanol medium.. After polymerizing reaction with ethylene and triethylene glycol the polymeric resin was heat treatment at 250°C for 2 hours in a mufle type oven, and in sequence, the resulting precursor was ground in a mortar and pyrolyzed at 600°C for 7 hours in a tubular furnace with a N2 atmosphere. By combining thermogravimetric and nitrogen adsorption/desorption analyses, the mechanism of pore formation during some stages of the pyrolysis process could be known. The pyrolysis starts with preferential formation of micropores, which are sequentially enlarged to mesopores and macropores with the pyrolysis rate dependent of the diol chain size, where the cracking process is slower for polymeric resin obtained from triethylene glycol. The variation of the diol type showed to be a powerful controller of pore size distribution due to the reducing of the polyester cracking rate. Thus, the pyrolysis occurs more slowly, and consequently, the mesopore formation is more controllable in the intermediate stage, which permitted to generate a noticeably mesoporous matrix." @default.
