Paratype No. 76BBE6201, on the continental shelf of the East China Sea(30°30＇N, 124°00＇E), 55 meters deep, June 20, 1976, LIU Xi-xing, a colony on an oyster shell.Colony incrusting, unilaminar, forming a subcircular thin sheet on the substratum.Zooids rectangular, distinct and arranged in radiating lines. Mural rims thick, raised,serrated, and forming the boundaries between neighbouring zooids. No interzooidal grooves between neighbouring zooids. Frontal membrane large, and occupying the whole of the frontal area. No gymnocyst. Cryptocyst marginal, distally and laterally narrower than proximately, slopping laterally and distally towards the hasal side of the zooid, granular on the surface and serrated in the inner margin. Opesiae subrectuangular or oval, and occupying two thirds to three quarters of the frontal area. Mural porechambers on the transverse wall uniporous, four to five of them being large and arranged in a transverse line near the hasal side of the wall, six to eight being middle and arranged in a transverse 1 line near the side of the frontal membrane, and many being small and sattered densely between the two lines. Mural porechambers on the lateral wall multiporous, consisting of two longitudinal rows, one of them being made up of four large pores arranged in a row near the side of the frontal membrane, the other being composed of six to eight small pores arranged in a row near the hasal side of the wall.The new species is somewhat similar to a unilaminar colony of Membranipora grandicella (Canu et Bassler, 1929) in the general characters of zooids, especially in the cryptocyst, but can be easily distinguished from the latter by the absence of interzooidal grooves between neighbouring zooids which are separated by their raised mural rims,and by the distinct mural porechambers on the transverse and lateral wall from the ones in that species." @default.
