- W233735103 abstract "Continuous Annular Chromatography (CAC) has been developed as a process that allows steady-state operation of multicomponent, chromatographic separations. The apparatus uses a slowly rotating annular bed of sorbent material. Feed is continuously introduced at a stationary point at the top of the annulus, while eluent flows over the rest of the circumference. The rotation of the sorbent bed coupled with down-flow of eluent and sorption, causes the separated components of the feed to form helical bands, which appear at the bottom of the annular bed at characteristic, stationary exit points. The process concept has been developed experimentally using columns ranging from 50 to 450 mm in diameter and operating between 7 and 1300 kPa. Three novel applications of CAC were investigated: the separation of sugars by simple elution, the separation of metal ion mixtures by multiple step elution, and the separation of amino acids by displacement development. Experimental results and theoretical developments in these fields of application are reviewed in this paper." @default.
