- W2341030049 abstract "Eating disorders in adolescence are characterized by an excessive preoccupation with control over body weight and food intake, overvaluation of weight and/or body shape and are accompanied by inadequate, irregular or chaotic food intake [1]. Eating disorders are more prevalent in females than in males [2] and usually have their onset in late adolescence, between 16 and 20 years of age. Between 2 % and 4 % of female adolescents and young adults develop full syndrome eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia or binge-eating disorder), while subclinical abnormal eating behaviours are estimated to affect up to 25 % of adolescent women [2, 3]. Eating disorders are persistent and have a chronic course and a relatively difficult treatment [4]." @default.
