- W2341181121 abstract "Abstract Polymer nanocomposites (PNCs) are a group of hybrid materials that use polymer as the matrix and nanomaterial as the filler (also called nanofiller). Due to the unique synergistic multifunctions through incorporation of multiple components into one compatible entity, PNCs have found broad applications in electronic, magnetic, optical, and electrochromism. Among the aforementioned applications, magnetic PNCs (mPNCs) have been of special interests for research efforts during the past decades. PNCs have been given magnetic properties by the addition of magnetic materials such as iron-based species. One of the many applications of mPNCs is to serve as highly efficient, highly kinetic, and recyclable nanoadsorbents for waste water remediation. In order to understand the remediation process and the physicochemical mechanisms of the interactions between the waste species and the mPNCs, the fate of the magnetic components, such as iron species is of critical importance. Mossbauer spectroscopy as a unique motion-based, highly sensitive spectroscopic technique that helps to elucidate the fate of iron fillers in the PNCs by differentiating among the various iron species, as each of them has a unique Mossbauer spectroscopic fingerprint. In this chapter, we will cover examples and the significance of PNCs, especially mPNCs, that are applicable to environmental remediations, followed by the brief history and characterizations of Mossbauer spectroscopy, and finally the applications of Mossbauer spectroscopy, especially in elucidating the mechanism of mPNCs during environmental remediation." @default.
