- W2343282887 abstract "Graduate School of Information Science and Engineering Department of Mathematical and Computing Sciences Doctor of Philosophy Programmable and Non-programmable Models in Security Proofs by Mario Rebello Larangeira Junior We review the programmable and non-programmable variants of the Random Oracle Model (ROM), Generic Group Model (GGM) and Generic Ring Model (GRM) and their roles in security proofs. More formally, this work recalls a new security proof for the RSA-FDH signature scheme in the non-programmable ROM under the one-more one-wayness assumption of the RSA trapdoor permutation. Furthermore, we review four models: the programmable and non-programmable GGM and the analogous two for the GRM. We show that in the programmable generic models it is possible to turn around the negative result by Nielsen [1], regarding the non-interactive non-committing encryption (NINCE) in the presence of an adversary who adaptively corrupts the parties. This observation is evidence of the role of the programmability property, the intrinsic property of the programmable models, has in security proofs. The use of such a property is illustrated by proving that the Goldwasser-Micali encryption scheme is NINCE scheme regarding corruption of the receiver in the programmable GRM. Whereas, for the programmable GGM, we show that the popular ElGamal encryption scheme is also NINCE despite the corruptions of the receiver and the sender. In both schemes the attack exposes the secret key. Such observations contrasts with results in non-programmable models [1], where it is known that NINCE schemes are not possible, therefore are evidence of the crucial role that programmability has in security proofs." @default.
