Um den analytischen Brückenschlag zwischen diesen beiden Teilbereichen der Politikwissenschaft zu vollziehen, kann auf das Konzept der Politikdiffusion zurückgegriffen werden. Letzteres fragt nach den Bedingungen, die den Aus breitungsprozess politischer Innovationen innerhalb des internationalen Systems fordern oder hemmen. Allerdings existiert sowohl in der traditionellen US-amerikanischen Diffusionsforschung als auch in neueren Forschungsansätzen aus dem europäischen Raum eine Unschärfe in der Verwendung des Diffusionsbegriffs. Vor diesem Hintergrund wird in diesem Kapitel angestrebt, einen konzeptionellen Analyserahmen zum Verständnis von Politikdiffusion im internationalen System zu entwickeln.2 Dabei wird auf Erkenntnisse der Soziologie, der Kommunikations- sowie der Marketingforschung zurückgegriffen — Disziplinen, in denen das Diffusionskonzept seit langem eine etablierte Forschungsrichtung ist. Über die Herausarbeitung von konzeptionellen Gemeinsamkeiten mit und Unterschieden zu diesen Nachbardisziplinen soll die politikwissenschaftliche Perspektive gestärkt und das Potenzial des Diffusionskonzepts für unsere Disziplin verdeutlicht werden. Mithilfe der Entwicklung eines analytischen Rahmens soll nicht nur ein Beitrag zu der theoretischen Debatte um die Diffusion politischer Innovationen geleistet werden.
