W2344806656 abstract "Macro invertebrate communities and environmental variables were assessed in the Kucuk Menderes coastal wetland area. The delta of the Kucuk Menderes River is considered one of the important bird areas of Turkey and is accepted as a B class wetland area by the international Ramsar Convention. In this paper we present and analyze the dominance and distribution patterns of assemblages of macro invertebrates in the wetland area of the Kucuk Menderes River and relate them to environmental factors using classification and ordination techniques. Environmental data were used to explain biological variation using multivariate techniques provided by the program CANOCO. The ordination method CCA (Canonical Correspondence Analysis) was applied to evaluate the relationships between the distribution of macro invertebrate assemblages and environmental variables. Hardness, HCO3 and salinity were found to be the primary factors affecting the structures of the observed communities. Two-way indicator species analysis (TWINSPAN) was used as a classification technique. This analysis classified sites into five groups based on similarities in macro invertebrate composition. Gammarus aequicauda was a TWINSPAN indicator for the brackishwater localities, while Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri, Chironomus anthracinus and Limnodrilus udekemianus were a TWINSPAN indicator for the almost brackish-freshwater localities." @default.
