- W2345044691 abstract "End-stage renal disease and dialysis have negative impact on lifestyle. Male sexuality is a significant predictor of quality of life. The proposal of this study was to determine the prevalence and the associated factors of erectile dysfunction among hemodialysis patients. This was a study based on data collected from male patients undergoing hemodialysis. Clinical, demographic and laboratory data of all patients were collected and eligible patients were interviewed by questionnaire: the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF) and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS). The prevalence of erectile dysfunction was determined among 55 male patients with end stage renal disease who had been on hemodialysis for at least one year. Their mean age was 48.2 ± 11.9 years. Seniority in dialysis was 3, 33 ± 3,65 years. The underlying etiologies of renal failure of the patients included hypertension (34, 5%), Diabetes Mellitus (21,8%), glomerulonephritis (7,3%), polycystic kidney (9,1%), unknown (27,3%) Erectile dysfunction, orgasmic, desire and satisfaction disorders were found in 76,4%(42 patients), 67,3% (37patients), 70,9%(34 patients) et 78,2%(43 patients) respectively. The majority of male patients were dissatisfied with their performance at intercourse after progressing to end stage renal disease. The middle value of testosterone was of 3, 84 ±1, 77 ng/ml. The levels of the gonadotrophin hormone and of the prolactin were raised (respectively 14, 62 ± 8, 86 mU/ ml and 465, 54 ± 299, 66 μU/ ml). The serum testosterone was decreased significantly among the patients having trouble of libido, orgasm and erection. The levels of gonadotrophin hormone as well as prolactin were raised significantly among these patients. After adjusting for confounding factors, advance age, diabetes, benign prostatic hyperplasia, high anxiety and depression, severe anemia, and higher C-reactive protein were independent risk factors for the development of erectile dysfunction." @default.
