- W2347251046 abstract "It was found that the oxidation of malachite green (MG) by potassium periodate (KIO_4) is catalyzed by the presence of trace amounts of divalent manganese when activated by nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA). Based on this phenomenon, an ion-selective electrode with polyethylene membrane (using the ion association complex of malachite green and sodium tetraphenyl borate as the electroactive matter) coated on a glass electrode was prepared and used as catalytic indicator system in the potentiometric titration of chromium in industrial waste water. The chromium ion in the trivalent state was reacted with a definite amount of EDTA under heating to form the Cr-EDTA complex. The excess of EDTA in the solution was then titrated with standard manganese(Ⅱ) solution at pH 4.5～7.0 using the MG-selective electrode as the indicator and SCE as reference electrode. Optimum conditions of titration procedure were given. This method has been applied to the analysis of tanning waste water and electroplating waste water without any separation operation. Good repeatabilities (1%) and recoveries (Av. 9962%) were obtained in the analysis and the results obtained were in consistency with those obtained by the FAAS method." @default.
