- W2347384087 abstract "Nation-building has been one of the most important issues for Malaysia since its independence.Based on the previous research findings,this article looks into the debates and disagreement on the topic with author's own observations and analysis,such as the definition of nation and the path leading to the nation-building.While both sides agreed that Malaysia as a nation belongs to Malaysians,the Malay people perceived this issue from the perspective of history,and believe that the Malay ethnic group should be the core of the nation characterised by the Malay culture,and the geographically scattered society also needs to be integrated by Malay's history,culture and language. The Chinese,however,viewed this issue from the perspective of citizenship and argued that the so-called Malaysian culture was formed on the basis of different ethnic cultures.Every citizen of Malaysia as a consequence should enjoy his or her rights and duties equally no matter which ethnic group he or she belongs to,and only on this basis could all the ethnic groups in the country be fully assimilated.A number of issues emerged in the debates and research need to be further explored in the future." @default.
