- W2347719412 abstract "Objective To investigate the effects of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on the proliferation of endogenous neural stem cells in the hippocampus of cerebral ischemia rats. Methods The filament method was used to establish the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rat model. Fifty successful rat models were randomized into natural recovery group (n = 25) and rTMS group (n = 25). The recovery of neurological function was evaluated at different time points, and the BrdU-nestin immunofluorescence double staining was used to label endogenous neural stem cells in the hippocampus. Results The neurological deficit scores were assessed after ischemia for 1, 3, 7 d, and no significant differences were found between the two groups. The neurological deficit scores of rTMS group were significantly lower after ischemia for 14 d and 28 d compared to the natural recovery group. The BrdU-nestin double labeled cells in two groups were appeared at 1 d, increased at 3 d, reached to the peak level at 7 d and then decreased at 14 d after ischemia. However, the BrdU-nestin double labeled cells of the hippocampus in the rTMS group were significantly higher than those in the natural recovery group at the same time periods. Conclusion The application of rTMS may promote the proliferation of endogenous neural stem cells in the hippocampus and the recovery of neurological function in rats with cerebral ischemia." @default.
