- W2347749178 abstract "In order to know the smoking pattern of residents in Shantou,we carried out a smoking survey in Shantou according to the plan of 1996 National Prevalence Survey of Smoking Pattern. About 1000 persons aged from 15 to 70 years were surveyed. The results showed that the general smoking prevalence rate was 39.10% and smoking rate of male (71.97%) was much higher than that of female (4.59%). Aged 15～19 years group had the lowest rate (12.77%) and 55～59 years group had the highest somking rate (46.77%).Selfemployees had the highest smoking rate (71.43%) and middle school students had the lowest rate (3.90%). 80.31% of the smokers started to smoke before 25 years old. 92.0% of the smokers comsumed 5～24 cigarettes per day. The quitting rate of smoking was 15.10% and 27.58% of them had given up smoking succssfully. The passive smoking rate was 60.37%. The knowledge rates of the harmful of smoking,passive smoking and pregnant woman smoking were 87.70% ,74.0% and 55.20% respectively. The results suggest that it is necessary to strengthen health education for reducing the harm of tobacco in Shantou." @default.
