- W2348070006 abstract "Objective:To investigate an effective technique of skin flaps for immediate reconstruction of tongue defect after radical resection of tongue carcinoma.Methods:From March 2006 to July 2010,sixty-nine patients with tongue carcinoma were selected to be treated with salvage surgery,and a variety of skin flaps were transferred for immediate reconstruction of tongue and /or floor of mouth defects.Observation items consisted of skin flap survival rate,incidence of complications,speaking and swallowing functions,and the contour.Results:Skin flap survival rate was 98.5%. Complications occurred in 3 cases(4.35%),including two subtotal tongue defect and one whole tongue defect.All donor site healed with first intension.The reconstructed tongues worked functionally well and the speaking and swallowing functions were satisfactory after 2～2.5 years follow-up.Conclusion:It is so important to gain the better function of speaking and swallowing that we should grasp the principle of tongue reconstruction and select appropriate restorative procedure." @default.
