- W2348181621 abstract "Blaps rhynchopetera is a kind of folk medicinal insects which is widely used in Yunnan Province, China. It was described in this paper that morphological characters, the main biological characteristics and behaviors of B.rhynchopetera based on the field investigations and indoor experiments. The female beetles laid eggs from the end of January to early of December in laboratory condition. The eggs hatched about 8 - 15 d after they are laid.In general, the beetles went through 9-13 larval instars. The whole larva stage took up 141 -213 d.The exarate pupae appeared from early April to early November. The prepupa stage took up 8 -14 d.The pupa stage took up 12 -24 d.The insects matured sexually and began to mate and lay eggs 24-92 d after they emerged. The adult stage lasted over 18 months. B.rhynchopetera completed 1-1.5 generations per year in Kunming and Qujing region of Yunnan province, southwestern China. The stages of adult and larva were longer than other stages in its life cycle, and the life history was irregular. The insect overwintered in adults and larvae of different instars in soil. Overwintering larvae pupated in April of second year. The new generation of adults copulated and laid eggs in late April to early December. The adults were more active in night than in day time. The adults have defensive gland and could use chemical defensive to protect themselves. Both adults and larvae preferred to living in wet and dark environment, and getting together." @default.
