- W2348940664 abstract "The venom was collected from the scorpions(Buthus martensi Karch)caughtin Henan province,China.Experiments were Carried out on the rat phrenic nervediaphragm preparations. The results are as follows:1.Under the action of scorpion venom the indirectly elicited contraction ofdiaphragm was transiently potentiated and then progressively diminished tillcomplete abolishment.2.The duration of the monophasic compound action potential of the phrenicnerve was significantly prolonged by scorpion venom due to the formation of“pla-teau”in its falling phase.3.Scorpion venom markedly diminished the membrane potential of musclefibers, and this effect was antagonized by tetrodotoxin.4.The duration of action potential with“plateau”recorded in muscle fiberwas also prolonged conspicuously after applying scorpion venom to the medium. This effect could not be prevented by the previous treatment of the preparationwith tetrodotoxin.5.Socorpion venom antagonized the neuromuscular block produced byd-tubocurarine or by increasing Mg~(++)concentration in the medium.A singleindirect stimulus could evoke repetitive end-plate potentials which even summedup and triggered action potential and muscle contraction.Scorpion venom increased the frequency of miniature end-plate potential upto 100 s~(-1) 1h after administration of the toxin. The results of our experiments indicate that scorpion venom contains someneurotoxic compounds which may act on the Na~+ channels in the excitablemembrane of nerve and muscle." @default.
