- W2349003734 abstract "Rye pollen, being trinucleant, has a veryshort life-span under natural conditions. Arti-ficial maintenance of pollen viability and fer-tility for long period is important in plantbreeding and conservation of plant resources.In this paper, viability of rye pollen didn'tchange significantly after being stored in liquidN_2 for a year. The stored pollen gave 57.6%seed setting, which was 88% that of freshpollen. The H_2O content of pollen had adecisive influence on its storability in liquidN_2. The fresh pollen with about 50% H_2Ocontent died after being stored in liquid N_2,because of intracellular ice crystal formationunder super-low temperature. The results showed that the fertility ofrye pollen with 15.5%-6.0% H_2O con-tent after being stored in liquid N_2 for 11～14days was not significantly different from thatof fresh pollen. When the pollen with 11.5%H_2O content was stored in liquid N_2 for 14days, the percentage of seed setting reached83.0%, which was 15. 1 percentage pointshigher than 68% with fresh pollen." @default.
