- W2350259960 abstract "Objective To evaluate the application of magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)in measuring the ocular volume in analyzing the correlation of ocular volume and ocular axis length. To find the regression equation between ocular volume and ocular axis for calculation of ocular volume in pathological myopia. Design Prospective case control study. Participants Thirty-five eyes of 35 cases which rhegmatogenous retina detachment occurred in the other eye during March 2008 to June 2008. Methods All paticipants under-took ophthalmic check,fundus examination,ultrasound,refraction,and ocular volume based on MRI and were divided into pathological myopia group (group A,20 eyes) and non pathological myopia group (group B,15 eyes) based on refraction and fundus appearance. Main Outcome Measures Ocular volume,ocular axis,refraction,corrected visual acuity. Results Ocular volume based on MRI was 9026.00±1565.94 mm3 and 6449.99±696.43 mm3 in group A and group B,respectively (z=-4.767,P=0.000). In group A,5 eyes in-creased in size homogeneously,12 eyes increased mostly in axial diameters,and 5 eyes showed temple deformation. Eye morphology was normal in group B. Corrected visual acuity,ocular axis in A scan,ocular volume based on MRI was 0.63±0.37/29.15±2.76 mm(P=0.001),1.07±2.84/23.80±1.14 mm(P=0.000)in group A and group B respectively. In group A,ocular volume was positively correlated with ocular axis(r=0.86,P=0.000),refraction(r=0.539,P=0.021),and negatively corrected visual acuity(r=-0.510,P=0.031),while in group B,it was only related with ocular axis (r=0.76,P=0.000). Linear regression function between ocular volume and ocular axis was valid in 88% and 72% eyes in group A and group B,respectively. Conclusions MRI is a good implement for measurement ocular volume of pathological myopia in vivo. Ocualr volume caculated from ocular axis could provide the reference data for retina operation." @default.
