- W2350844891 abstract "Objective To investigate the relationship between the serum zinc, iron and calcium value in preschool children and their health conditions as well as,analysis their change among the children with hypocalcium and hypozinc after having given intervention. Methods To take the intravenous blood sample of voluntary participants and test serum zinc and calcium values with the questionnaires from parents for the information regarding children's diet habit and susceptibility to infection. The height and weight were also recorded. The children with lower levels of serum zinc and calcium were divided into two groups: diet therapy group and drug therapy group. Three months later after treatment, the serum values of calcium and zinc were retested. Results 619 cases (55%) out of 1125 children had one abnormal paremeters at least , and 195(17.3%)cases had both hypocalcium and hypozinc. 17 cases(1.5%) had lower levels of the serum zinc, iron and calcium value. There were 515 children (45.7%) in lower level of serum zinc. 342 cases out of all the tested children had bad diet habit (30.4%). 189 cases (16.8%) suffered from slight malnutrition are and the children of lower than normal in height had 342 cases (30.4%) and 508 cases (45,2%) had susceptibility to infection.Serum zinc in drug therapy group and diet therapg group in creased significantly(P0.01).Conclusion serum zinc level in this tested group is seriously low. The serum value of zinc in preschool children is associated with the diet habit, infectious susceptibility and height of children and hypocalcium is related to bad diet habit. Both drug therapy and diet therapy can correct children's hypozinc and medication is a most effective method for treating the children with hypozinc." @default.
