- W235161030 abstract "Summary Disturbance in Na-absorption following bilateral adrenalectomy was analysed in surface renal tubules of the rat using micropunction and microperfusion methods. In the proximal convolution the transtubular Na-concentration differences were unchanged in stopped-flow experiments. The net rate of isotonic fluid absorption (split oil drop method acc. to Gertz ) was reduced, however, a fact which can be explained by an inhibition of local Na-transport capacity on the part of the tubule cells in this segment. The fact that proximal fluid absorption was normal or even increased in spite of the free flow of the ultrafiltrate can be explained by the reduced speed of flow through the proximal convolution in adrenalectomized rats, i.e. local absorption inhibition is compensated for by prolonged contact between tubule fluid and tubule epithelium. - In the distal convolution the Na-absorption was also reduced following adrenalectomy. This, in contrast to the proximal, was demonstrated not only in an inhibited rate of isotonic fluid absorption but also in an increase in the intraluminal Na-concentration. The difference in Na-concentration (plasma minus tubule fluid) against which sodium can be absorbed from the tubule lumen will therefore drop when adrenal corticosteroids are lacking. By use of d-aldosterone it was possible to neutralize the inhibition of sodium absorption demonstrated in the adrenalectomized rats." @default.
