- W2353202007 abstract "Objective To observe the changes of evoked potentials following the treatment of GM1 ganglioside in the patients with moderate and severe head injuries, and evaluate the effect of GM1 on the acute head injury. Methods From May 1997 through March 1998, 20 cases of moderate and severe traumatic closed head injuries were admitted to our intensive care unit and treated with GM1 ganglioside, GCS≤ 12 before treatment. GM1 ganglioside 100mg was given intravenously by perfusion lasting for two hours, once a day, for three days. Median nerve short- latency somatosensory evoked potentials (SLSEPs) and brain stem auditory evoked potentials(BAEPs) were recorded before and at the first and the third hours post treatment. The changes of their cheif interpeak latency (IPL) were analyzed by statistical methods. Results The N13～20 IPL in SLSEP was decreased significantly after treatment, P 0. 01. The Ⅰ～ⅤIPL in BAEP was decreased significantly, P 0. 05. The parameters recorded at the first and the third hours after treatment showed no significant difference. Conclusions The above data indicate that GM1 ganglioside has significantly decreasing effect on prolonged IPL of patients with acute traumatic head injury. It is suggested that GM1 ganglioside is one of the effective new drugs for treating human head injury." @default.
