W2354988042 abstract "ObjectiveTo explore the characteristic of index offence and the criminal responsibility of the forensic patients with manic episode and depressive episode. MethodsA comparative study was conducted between 28 cases of manic episode and 26 cases of depressive episode referred for forensic psychiatric assessment from 1999 to 2004 at the Mental Health Institute of Central South University. ResultsThere was a significantly difference between the two groups the homicide(depression 46.2% vs mania 14.3%, P0.01), and there was a significantly difference between the two groups in motivation and the relationship of the victim,the value of Chi-square was 8.486,10.312,respectively. No difference was found in the result of criminal responsibility between the two groups. ConclusionThere has some differences in index offence between patients with manic episode and depressive episode, these maybe due to the difference of the symptoms, the severity of the patients and the ability of identification and self-control between the two groups." @default.
