- W2355032 abstract "Publisher Summary The sensitivity and specificity of the immunocytological technique makes it a good tool to map the presumptive pancreatic areas in a young chick's blastoderm. A large area of the splanchnopleure is capable of giving rise to pancreatic cells, both exocrine and endocrine. It is likely that the dorsal rudiment arises from a level posterior to the sixth somite, from a bilateral territory, that moves cephalad and centrad during the morphogenetic movements of the gut. Explants from that area develop pancreatic tissue rich in both types of islets. However, such explants often show insulin islets that are associated with intestinal endoderm. This chapter discusses whether the presumptive areas of endocrine and exocrine tissue are distinct in the early blastoderm. The floor of the pharynx most probably gives rise to one or both of the ventral pancreatic buds. It is not yet possible to say anything conclusively regarding either the mechanism for the chronological discrepancy between the apparition of insulin in different parts of the normally developing pancreas or about the origin of the heterogenous distribution of glucagon islets." @default.
