- W2355532431 abstract "Through experimental work of 6 unstrengthened control timber beams and 21 FRP(CFRP and GFRP) strengthened timber beams,the ultimate load and the bending stiffness of FRP strengthened timber beams were compared with those of unstrengthened control beams,also the failure modes and failure mechanism were discussed.The experimental results have shown that FRP reinforcement turns the brittle tensile failure to the ductile compression failure of timber beams.Also the strengthening of timber beams by FRP weakens the effect of the defects on the flexural behaviors.For FRP strengthened timber beams,the compression strength is made full use.Also the bending stiffness and the ductility of timber beams are improved significantly.When the FRP reinforcement is 0.37%～1.13%,the ultimate load of FRP strengthened timber beams increases by 17.7%～77.3% when compared with unstrengthened control beams.Based on ultimate strain design method,the equations for computing the ultimate load is developed.Then the present theoretical method is verified by the experimental work of other researchers.It has found that it is simple and shows a satisfied accuracy." @default.
