• W2356178613 abstract "Objective To investigate the effect of nutrition on pulmonary ventilation in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) so as to provide references for nutrition supplements. Methods Ninety-five PTB patients who were hospitalized from July to September in 2005 were randomly selected for the study. Their Body Mass Index (BMI) was measured, and serum albumin (ALB) and pulmonary functions were analyzed. The 95 cased were divided into two groups according to BMI: Group A (BMV≤185; n=35) and Group B (BMI185;n=60). The two groups were further divided into two groups according to ALB: Group I (ALB≤35; n=31) and Group Ⅱ (ALB35;n=64). The pulmonary ventilation was separately compared. The relations between BMI, ALB and pulmonary functions were analyzed. ResultsThe BMI of patients with PTB was 2002+35 and the ALB was 384+476. The prevalence of malnutrition was 3684% (35/95) according to BMI, 3263% (31/95) according to ALB. FVC%, FEV1%, MMF% in Group A were significantly lower than those in Group B: P001, 005 and 005 respectively; FVC%, MVV% in Group I were significantly lower than those in Group Ⅱ:P005. BMI was significantly positively correlated with FVC% and with FEV1% (r=030,032;P001). ALB was positively correlated with FVC%, MMF% and MVV% (r=027, 027 and 025; P001, 001 and 005 respectively). Conclusion Malnutrition can affect pulmonary ventilation. Nutrition supplement may improve pulmonary function of hospitalized patients." @default.
