- W2356282023 abstract "Introduction: reflection/action/research is usually defined as comprising three features: (1) It is a problem-solving process (2) that fosters professionals’ awareness about how they act and think, and (3) it is a tool for building new professional knowledge. Our aim in this study pertains to the first feature. More specifically, we analyze reflection/action/research as performed by two school counsellors while they reflect about their counselling tasks in the context of their work. Method: we analyzed the problem-solving process as a whole (not only by stages) as it arose spontaneously (without being induced by the researchers) when school counsellors needed to think about their counselling meetings. Therefore one of the authors followed each counsellor inside her educational setting for six full working days. Everything the counsellor said to the observer between one meeting and another was recorded and transcribed in order to winnow out all but comments about problem situations. These data were analyzed taking into account the common features of every problem-solving process, yet capturing the reflection style of each counsellor. Results: data analysis showed that the school counsellors paid more attention to certain components of the problem-solving process than others and that their level of reflection was deeper with respect to certain issues.
