- W23567940 abstract "Most of the available information on solution strengthening in alloys has been deduced from macroscopic flow-stress measurements. Amplitude-dependent internal-friction losses also depend on the dislocation-solute interaction, and this technique should, in principle, convey the same information. The interpretation of these measurements requires, however, a suitable model. The previous internal friction models are briefly reviewed. The recent flow-stress and internal-friction calculations based on the Labusch-Schwarz computer modeling method are discussed in more detail. In these, the dislocation-obstacle interaction has a smooth profile of finite range, the obstacles are distributed at random on the dislocation glide plane, and the dislocation motion is also opposed by viscous forces. The quantitative correspondence found between the flow-stress and the amplitude-dependent internal friction calculations is discussed. Experiments in which the internal-friction method has been used to investigate solution strengthening are discussed. These include: (a) the measurement of the force-distance law for the dislocation-solute interaction, (b) the study of the decrease in strength of superconducting alloys upon going from the normal to the superconducting state, and (c) the study of dynamic strain-aging in dilute Cu-Al alloys. The experimental results are used to evaluate the proposed models." @default.
