- W2359091567 abstract "Terrestrial in situ cosmogenic nuclides( TCN) dating is a significant geochronological tool for the researches in geological and geomorphological fields. The stable cosmogenic isotope21 Ne provides an extremely powerful tool for measuring both the surface exposure ages and the rates of geological and geomorphic processes. Compared to the radionuclides,such as10 Be and26Al,the stable nuclide21 Ne offers a number of advantages: 1) The exposure histories which are longer than the limit of a few million years imposed by the half-life of10 Be or26Al are allowed to be investigated by21 Ne dating method. 2) The10 Be and26Al dating methods have been successfully applied in quartz only. For21 Ne analyses,other silicates,such as pyroxene,olivine,sanidine,hornblende and biotite are alternative minerals to quartz. 3) Much smaller sample size is required for21 Ne studies( about 0. 2 ~ 1. 0g) than that for radionuclides analyses, and the sample preparation for21 Ne analyses is relatively straightforward as it does not require extensive chemical purification or chromatograghy. On the other hand,the combination of21 Ne and the radionuclide,such as10 Be or26Al,for the burial dating,offers a way to both enlarge the dating range and improve the analytical precision. The burail dating range of the10Be-21 Ne nuclides pair,which would be effective to the Miocene under ideal conditions( about15 Ma for the upper dating limit),is more than double that of the10Be-26 Al pair( 0. 3 ~ 5Ma). And the stable nuclide21 Ne eliminates one of the decay constant uncertainties for the totle uncertainty in a burial age. Furthermore,the combined10 Be,26Al,and21 Ne measuremnts would show whether the samples have undergone the complex burial histories,such as the episodic burail and changes in depths. Stable cosmogenic21 Ne has become a significant geochronological technique for Quaternary geology research,however,because of the high resolution required to separate the40Ar2+peak from that of20Ne+in mass spectrometer,the development of cosmogenic21 Ne exposure dating technique in China is still in its early stages. But it can be expected that the application of the stable cosmogenic21 Ne to both exposure dating and burial dating would provide a promising tool for the researches in many fields,such as Quaternary geology and active tectonics." @default.
