• W2359131985 abstract "ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of liver enzyme inducers on the incidence and extent of icterus neonatorum (IN). MethodsTwo hundred thirty-six normally delivered neonates were divided into observed(n=176) and control(n=60) groups at random. In observed group, phenobarbital and nikethamide were given 12 h (subgroup A, n=62), 24 h(subgroup B, n=59) and 48 h (subgroup C, n=55) after birth respectively for prevention of jaundice; whereas no drug was given in the control group. Transcutaneous bilirubin (TCB) was monitored at 6 h,12 h, 24 h and 48 h after birth in both groups and the occurrence of IN was recorded respectively. ResultsTotal bilirubin concentrations at various periods in the observed group were lower than those in the control group (P0.05). The earlier the drugs were given, the fewer were icteric babies, and the less would be jaundice extent.ConclusionIf using early, phenobarbital and nikethamide can prevent or decrease the extent of IN." @default.
