- W2359431678 abstract "With the application of statistical method and harmonicanalysis,this paper presented the study of the spatial and temporal distribution as well as variation rule of the tides in offshore sea of western Taiwan Strait using the data of water gauge in summer and winter of 2006 and spring and autumn in 2007.The results showed that regular semidiurnal tides were dominant in the offshore sea from Pingtan to Zhangpu,irregular semidiurnal tides were dominant in Shantou offshore sea,and irregular diurnal tides were dominant in Huilai offshore sea.Diurnal tides propagated southwestwardly from Pingtan to Huilai offshore sea,and the semi-diurnal tides were the same.The offshore sea from Shantou to Huilai was an area where the southward and northward semidiurnal tides encountered and offset,as a result of which,diurnal tides were dominant in the area.The maximum tidal range in offshore sea from Pingtan to Quanzhou varied slightly,but linearly decreased from Xiamen to Huilai.This was because stationary waves formed in the offshore sea around Nanri Island with southward tidal waves from north of Taiwan encountering northward tidal waves from Luzon Straits,and the offshore sea from Xiamen to Hulai was beyond the influence of stationary waves.Take spring for example,the maximum tidal range in the offshore sea north of Pingtan Island was 6.02 m,Nanri Island offshore sea was 6.23 m,Quanzhou offshore sea was 5.98 m,Xiamen southeast offshore sea was 5.08 m,Zhangpu offshore sea was 4.32 m,and Huilai offshore sea was 2.28 m.We also calculated the spring average tidal range:Offshore sea north of Pingtan Island was 3.92 m,Nanri Island offshore sea was 4.14 m,Quanzhou offshore sea was 4.02 m,Xiamen southeast offshore sea was 3.30 m,Zhangpu offshore sea was 2.74 m and Huilai offshore sea was 1.22 m.What's more,the maximum tidal range showed seasonal variation.The average tidal cycle in the offshore sea from Pingtan to Zhangpu was 12 h 25 min or so,and the duration of tidal rise and the duration of tidal fall were about the same.The tidal cycle in the offshore sea of Shantou was 12 h 30 min or so,but the duration of tidal rise was about 1 h 20 min longer than the duration of tidal fall.This was because there the two duration of tidal rise and the two duration of tidal fall were usually not equal in a lunar day,and although the difference between the duration of tidal rise and the duration of tidal fall was small in equinoctial tide,the difference was large in tropic tide.As a result,the duration of tidal rise was about 1 h 20 min longer than the duration of tidal fall in the offshore sea of Shantou." @default.
