- W2359606437 abstract "Objective To explore the effects of total flavonoids of epimedium(TFE) on plasma levels of tumour necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) in rats with congestive heart failure(CHF).Methods Eighty male SD rats were randomly allocated to normal control group(n=10) and model control group(n=70).The CHF model was induced by subcutaneous injection of isoproterenol 170 mg/kg,for a total of two times with an interval of 24 hours.At the sixth week,left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) was measured by echocardiogram,and the CHF model was defined as LVEF≤45%.Then,the model rats were randomly divided into three groups: CHF control group(n=10),metoprolol treated group,and TFE treated group.At the 18th week,hemodynamic parameters were measured,including heart rate(HR),left ventricular end diastolic pressure(LVEDP),and left ventricular systolic pressure(LVSP),maximal rate of left ventricular pressure of development(+dp/dtmax),and maximal rate of left ventricular pressure of decline(-dp/dtmax);ventricular mass index(VMI) and left ventricular mass index(LVMI) were observed;the plasma levels of TNF-α were assayed by radioimmunity method;and the histopathological changes of cardiac muscles were observed under microscope.Results Compared with those of normal control group,HR,LVEDP,VMI,LVMI,and plasma TNF-α in CHF control group were significantly increased(P0.05,or P0.01),while ±dp/dtmax and LVSP were significantly decreased(P0.01);collagen tissues of cardiac muscles were obviously increased,and myocardial fibrosis was found.Compared with those of CHF control group,HR,LVEDP,VMI,LVWI,and the plasma TNF-α were significantly decreased(P0.05,or P0.01),while LVSP and ±dp/dtmax were significantly increased(P0.01) in groups treated with TFE and metoprolol;and myocardial fibrosis was obviously ameliorated.Conclusion TFE can improve heart function and reverse ventricular remodeling in CHF rats,which might be related with the decrement of plasma TNF-α." @default.
