- W2360336211 abstract "Bacterial endophytes confer benefits to the host such as protection against abiotic or biotic stresses or plant growth promotion. In this study, we have aimed to screen novel endophytes with respect to their abilities to inhabit endophytically in the leaf tissues. This resulted in four endo-phytes were screened out from apoplastic fluid, which were extracted from uninfected upper leaves of Arabidopsis thaliana after 3 days post in-oculation with Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato DC3000 (Pst). Under ster-ilized plant growth condition, we showed four isolates were able to pro-liferate intercellularly in the leaf tissues of A. thaliana. Through 16S rDNA sequencing analysis, the identity between inoculated endophytes and re-isolates from leaf tissues was confirmed. Among the isolates, Rhodococcus spp. was the first identified as leaf-inhabiting endophytes. In addition, three isolates showed antagonizing activities against Fusarium oxysporum pv. conglutinans (F. o.) and/or Pst with different activities. Furthermore, ap-plication of one isolate, Bacillus cereus, on tomato plants was significantly enhanced disease resistance to Botrytis cinerea and Pst. Taken together, these results indicate that these endophytic isolates may be used in de-veloping potential biocontrol agents against a range of pathogenic fungi and bacteria." @default.
