- W2360435503 abstract "The primary objective of this paper is to compare the difference in the simulated results from both of the models and identify their possible alternation. However, little is available for the comparison and potential alternation of the simulated results from both the Weather Research and Forecast(WRF) and the Fifth-Generation Mesoscale Model(MM5)models,despite thatboth of them are widely applied for atmospheric environmental impact assessment. In order to make a systematic comparison between the similarity and the differences in the two mesoscale meteorological models(MM5 and WRF),it is necessary to study the framework and dynamic structure of the two models. After all,the twomodels involve the vertical profiles and temporal changes of the air temperature, the dew point temperature, wind speed and direction, the relative humidity of a reference site of Beijing in 2010 if we want to simulate the upper-air meteorological situations of the capital by using the twomodels.Atthe same time,it is necessary to analyze the differences and similarities in the simulation results in a deep goingway. Our results indicate thatthe simulated results regarding the vertical profile distributions and theirtemporal changes in the above meteorological factors from both WRF and MM5 modelswere very similar to each other, with the correlation coefficients ranging from 89% to 99%,except for some minor deviations for the surface strata and higher strata above 8 000 m.Similarly, daily changes of each meteorological factor simulated by the two models also indicate consistently changing tendencies. With the exception of these correlation coefficients of less than 81% for the simulated wind speed and wind direction data between the two models, the correlation coefficients remain varied from84% to 98% forthe simulated air temperature, dew point temperature, and relative humidity data between the twomodels. On the whole, there is little difference that can be found between the simulated results from the two models for air temperature, dew point temperature, wind speed, wind direction and relative humidity. Therefore,it can be naturally concluded that both the WRF and MM5 models can be simply replaced by each other when they are used to the atmospheric environmental impact assessment(EIA).The findings of this paper can thus provide a basis for screening mesoscale meteorological model for environmental impact assessment." @default.
