- W2361280354 abstract "Objective To investigate the mechanism of the protective action of electroa(upuncture on nervous tissues after spinal injury from behavior and the number of red nucleus neurons. Methods A rat model of moderate T 12 spinal injury was made by ALLEN’s injury-inducing method. A electroacupuncture group was established and treated. Meanwhile normal, sham operation, simple acupuncture and model groups wre established as controls. The behavior was scored by a slant-board test at 12 hrs, 1 week and 4 weeks after model making in different groups of rat. At 4 weeks red nucleus neurons was counted by HPR antidromic tracer technique in each rat of different groups. Results At 2 hrs and 4 week after spinal injury, the slant-board test score did not vary significantly in the electroacupuncture group as compared with the simple acupuncture and model groups. At 4 weeks after spinal injury, the slant-board test score was significantly higher in the electroacupuncture group than in the simple acupuncture and model groups. Only at 12 hrs after the injury was there a significant difference in slant-board test score between the sham operation and normal groups and there was not at 1 week and 4 weeks after. At 4 week after spinal injury the number of red nucleus neurons was significantly larger in the electroacupuncture group than in the simple acupuncture and model groups. Conclusion Electroacupuncture treatment can promote the recovey of rat's hind leg function, increase its behavior score and reduce antidromic injury to red nucleus neurons." @default.
