- W2362505964 abstract "The motor conditioned reflexes established by verbal instruction, electroencephalogram during the preparatory state and during light and sound stimulation and arm plethysmogram during the appearance and disappearance of orientation reflex were used as methods of determining the types of higher nervous activity of normal adults and neurasthenic patients. The latter were examined twice, once before and once after the hospital treatment. The characteristics in each test for any given individual were analysed and formed the basis of classification. According to various criteria adopted, the normal subjects were classified into three groups: about 72—84% belonged to the balanced type, 15—24% to excitation-dominant type and 9—19% to inhibition dominant type. With the same criteria none of the patients could he considered as balanced; about 43—60% of them showed characteristics of weak internal inhibition, 33—43% of weak excitation and 5—15% of protective inhibition. After one month treatment 50—88% of the patients exhibited better responses in varying degrees in three different tests. The degree of improvement was most marked in patients belonging to the class of weak internal inhibition, less in that of weak excitation and least in that of protective inhibition. The relative rate of improvement in performing the test may be taken as evidence reflecting the different degrees of severity of the disease in-the three classes. From the physiological characteristics of the higher nervous activity it was easy to differentiate the neurasthenics from normal balanced type, but somewhat difficult in distinguishing the inhibition dominant and excitation dominant types of normal subjects respectively from the weak excitation and weak internal inhibition types of the patients. However, when the results of the three tests were considered altogether and compared with clinical records, the distinction between them was also possible." @default.
